Relieve Stress Symptoms with Spiritual Energy Balancing Tools

There are four simple spiritual energy balancing tools to help people relieve stress symptoms instantly. But it requires doing them instead of unconsciously jumping into a flight, fight or freeze reaction during a stressful situation.

When a crisis occurs or a deadline looms, or the pressure builds beyond the ability to cope, many people revert back to the Neanderthal days where the reptilian brain dominated. A natural response to danger would be to flee the scene, attack the opponent, or if synapses were totally overloaded, stand frozen, unable to do anything. If you tend to panic, worry, blame, judge, dramatize, feel helpless, or hide like an ostrich during stressful situations, you can most likely relate. I had a good chuckle when I read this quote by Richard Carlson: “Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness.”

Fortunately, we have evolved to the point where we can cognitively choose new perspectives on situations and employ spiritual energy techniques to bring ourselves back into balance. I’ve included four of my favorite energy balancing tools below. And for a more in-depth look at how to shift unhealthy stress patterns and create your ideal balance in life, read my book, From Chaos to Calm.

Spiritual Energy Balancing Tools for Instant Stress Relief

Breathe. Our breath is connected to our life force energy, Chi, Ki or Prana. When we are stressed our body responds with a surge of adrenalin and cortisol, preparing us for battle. While some bodily functions increase, others shut down. Taking a few slow deep breaths brings us back into our body in the present moment, which calms the mind and relaxes the body. From this balanced perspective we can access creative and intuitive solutions to our problems. The next time you catch yourself slipping into your old stress patterns, pause to take in 3 or 4 deep breaths and notice how much better you feel.

Center. When we’re racing to complete a project that was due last week, running for an appointment that started 10 minutes ago, or confronting a challenging cohort, we often become un-centered. We may operate from the reptilian part of our brain in the back of our head, jump into our analyzer in the forehead, or leave our body completely. By simply re-tuning to our spiritual core, we immediately come back into balance and respond to stressful situations from a calm, centered place. When you find yourself reacting instead of responding, bring all of your awareness into the center of your head, a few inches back from your forehead. This is a place where you can know yourself as a spiritual being, bigger than your mind’s racing thoughts or your body’s emotional reactions.

Ground. Another common stress symptom is to become ungrounded; that scattered, tense feeling where we either have too much frantic energy or too little spiritual energy. We each have an energetic grounding chord which flows from our first chakra at the base of our spine all the way down to the center of the planet. Our grounding supports us to release strong emotions, tension, and problems. When we’re stressed, we tend to narrow our grounding which prevents us from having a proper flow of energy. When you feel yourself tense up, bring your awareness to this invisible energy grounding chord. Allow it to widen and flow with ease all the way down to the center of the earth. This will bring immediate stress relief.

Visualize. What we resist persists. If you focus on your stress symptoms from a place of resistance, they will only get worse. But with the power of intention, you can focus on other feelings and spiritual energy states such as ease, amusement and peace. To help you do this, visualize being in a soothing place in nature. Perhaps visualizing waves rolling in and out will bring you into balance. Or matching the energy of a still pond might calm your mind. Take a five minute break to visualize a calming scene as a way to relieve stress and bring your mind and body back into balance with your heart and soul.

Play with these four techniques whenever stressful situations knock you off balance.
