The best way to rise above fear and doubt, especially when you’re about to take a bold step into something new, is to listen to your inner voice for spiritual guidance. Our minds are filled with messages and beliefs from family, peers and society. Some of these may be based in truth, but many are false and based in fear.
Don Miguel Ruiz speaks about the difference between knowledge (information we accumulate from outside of ourselves) and wisdom (spiritual truths based in reality) in his book, The Voice of Knowledge: A Practical Guide to Inner Peace
. He shares how the Toltec tradition has three fundamental masteries to guide people to their true nature of happiness, freedom and love. One of these is, “The Mastery of Transformation, which teaches us how to become spiritual warriors, and stalk our actions and reactions so we can break free of the knowledge that enslaves us. This mastery shows us how to change the dream of our life by changing our agreements and beliefs.”
As we discern the difference between fear based messages and our inner voice, we also discover the difference between limiting beliefs and spiritual truth. Then we are free to create and manifest the life we truly want. Here is a process for listening to your inner voice for spiritual guidance.
Rise Above Fear
Many people are stopped in their tracks by fearful messages swirling in their mind drowning out their inner voice. Just as they are about to embark on a new adventure or take a risk in life, the fearful voice in their head wakes up and warns them. “Don’t go there – you might get hurt!” is a favorite for some people entering a new relationship. “Watch out – you might embarrass yourself and get rejected,” is one that pops up for me when I’m about to speak my truth in public.
What is your personal fear message that replays in your mind, preventing you from moving forward? The next time you hear its taunting voice, remember that it isn’t your highest truth, it’s just an old tape playing in your head. Rise above fear by connecting to the God of your heart for spiritual strength. Ask for help in crossing the fine line between fear and excitement. As fear diminishes, you will be able to hear your inner voice guiding you to your next step.
Move Past Doubt
Small seeds of doubt can quickly grow into smothering weeds that strangle the life out of enthusiasm if they aren’t dealt with. Don’t feed doubt with your attention, instead see it for what it is (just a limiting belief or invalidating message in your mind) and toss it out. Surrender your fears to your higher self and move past doubt by acknowledging and honoring your strengths, skills and talents. This will raise your energy enough to bring you into alignment with your spiritual self so you can hear your inner voice and follow its spiritual guidance.
Listen to Your Heart and Soul
Do you listen to your mind’s logical advice or follow your body’s emotional nudging? While these are valid ways of gaining information and making decisions, they may be tainted by false beliefs, distorted perceptions, and societal pressures. The best method I know for discerning the truth is by listening to the inner voice of my heart and soul.
When seeking spiritual guidance, turn inward and listen within for your heart and soul’s wisdom. Your heart and soul are directly connected to the Source of all life. Tune out fear and doubt, and tune into who you are as a spiritual being, bigger than your mind’s intellect or your body’s emotions. Within the inner stillness of your soul is where you’ll find your highest truth.
