How to Renew Your Spiritually – 4 Tips for Soul Reconnection

Are you going through a spiritual drought? These tips will help renew your spirituality and reconnect to your soul.

The ironic thing about spiritual droughts is we’re never really in the desert!

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” ~ John 4:13-14.

The water – the source of our soul reconnection – is always waiting. We need only dip in when we’re ready and willing to drink!  For guidance and inspiration, read A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World. And, here are four tips for spiritual nourishment…

How to Renew Your Spiritually – 4 Tips for Soul Reconnection

1. Remember your source of spiritual strength. The bad news is that I’ve been in a spiritual drought for five years. The good news is that I’m charging towards the light! I live in a small community that has about four churches. None of them suit my personality or spirituality; I feel like my soul has been hobbled. But, my husband and I are moving to a large city in a week from today, and I’m thrilled at the prospect of finding a church that will help me reconnect with God, my faith, and my spirituality! If you’re in a spiritual drought, remember how you first connected to your soul and spirituality. Therein lies the first clue for reconnection.

2. Redefine your spirituality. Maybe you’re in a spiritual drought because you no longer know what spirituality means. Maybe you’re weary of your customary ways of worshipping, connecting with God, or interacting with a community of believers. To renew your spiritual health, you may need to redefine what it means to be spiritual, religious, faithful, or connected to a Higher Source of Power.

3. Explore new faiths, religions, spiritual organizations. Our first Sunday in the big city, we’re going to an Alliance church that I attended almost 15 years ago. I loved it then, and I’m open to either loving or leaving it now. Maybe that church is just what I need to end my spiritual drought…and maybe it’s meant to be a cherished memory. Maybe my husband and I should explore a few different churches and faiths as a couple, instead of reverting to my “tried and true.” Sometimes spiritual thirst can be quenched by simply attending a different church, doing volunteer work with people of a different faith, or learning about a different religion.

4. Unleash your spirituality! Are you spiritual in your workplace? Do you pray with your partner? To renew your soul connection, take your spirituality into unfamiliar territories. Challenge yourself, take risks – force yourself to rely on God and your faith. My husband and I are taking a leap of faith by buying a new house and living in a totally new community, and I hope it strengthens not just our connection to God, but our spiritual connection to each other. When was the last time you unleashed your spirituality on the world?

As you renew your spirituality, don’t forget what caused the drought. The more aware you are of the roots of unhealthy or lapsed spirituality, the less likely you’ll experience it again.
