Honor the Goddess and Divine Feminine Aspect of God

Why honor the goddess and divine feminine aspect of God? Because for too long God has been depicted as a male, authoritarian father figure devoid of the nurturing warmth of female energy. This has created an imbalance between and within people, a misunderstanding of spirituality, and a rift between cultures, countries and religions. We’ve seen this over the centuries through the rise of patriarchic religions, war torn countries, and the dominance of right brain, logical thinking in so many people.

When we honor the goddesses throughout history we embrace the divine feminine within. This supports both men and women to cultivate strength, wisdom, power, creativity, tenderness and nurturing qualities. God is not male or female, but a transcendent aspect of both. As children of God, even though we are in separate male and female bodies, we each carry the energy of feminine and masculine, yin and yang, within us. If we suppress either of these we become imbalanced. When both are embraced we become whole. It’s time to re-tune to the divine feminine aspect of God.

Julie Loar, author of the book Goddesses for Every Day: Exploring the Wisdom and Power of the Divine Feminine around the World, notes that “Thousands of years ago there was a Great Goddess who manifested as a trinity long before the masculine version of the bible. She was revered around the world as Maiden, Mother, and Crone, or Elder. She is still honored in many places by indigenous people.”

Loar researched hundreds of goddesses from around the world. To receive inspiration from an array of deities described in a daily reflection format that follows the seasons and signs of the zodiac, read Loar’s book. And for more insights on the sacred feminine, read on.

What Happened to the Divine Feminine?

According to Loar’s research, the sacred feminine trinity of Maiden, Mother and Crone existed long before the male trinity in Christianity. It represented the cycles of nature and of life. Many goddesses, including the Egyptian goddess, Isis, wore a triple crown representing the phases of the moon. This was a symbol of “creation, generation and regeneration.”

Several millennia ago, when goddesses where honored, “seasonal festivals celebrated the annual ebb and flow of life, and people moved in conscious resonance with the shifting cycles of light and dark, life and death. In ages past, women were revered as givers of life,” notes Loar. But over time “powerful goddesses were diminished, even demonized, with the rise of patriarchy. In the absence of a feminine divine presence, half of humanity becomes inferior, without a direct connection or relationship to divine nature.” It’s time to start honoring our feminine aspects.

How to Honor the Goddess Aspect of God

Regardless of what religion or spiritual tradition you follow, you can embrace to the divine feminine in the following ways:

~ As you read the Bible or other religious texts, let go of the image of God as a male and instead tune into the wholeness of the Creator. See, sense and feel the nurturing, yielding, feminine aspects as well as the active, strong masculine qualities.

~ Read about spiritual women of history such as Kwan Yin, the Chinese bodhisattva known as Mother of Mercy; or Mary Magdalene who is now a Catholic saint; or Lakshmi, a well known Hindu goddess. Each of these and many more are described in Loar’s book, Goddesses for Every Day.

~ Spend time outdoors and reflect on the seasons and cycles of nature. Follow the lunar cycles; set intentions at the new moon and release negative habits during the full moon.

~ Get out of your head and into your body. Feel your emotions, honor your heart’s desires, express your creativity, and spend time in the stillness of being.

~ Balance your yin and yang energy by consciously activating the flow of feminine and masculine energy within your body.

I hope these insights and tips help you to honor the goddess and divine feminine aspects of God. If you have any questions or wisdom to offer, please share below.

    Hello Sally,

Congratulations on publishing your book on the Blessings from Mary Magdalene. I bet it’s wonderful – the video clip was uplifting. It’s such an important time now to be connecting with the divine feminine energy – as you know it has implications with everything we do.

Fortunately, the feminine energy is coming up on the planet more now regardless of what we do, so we will be blessed with it (will be a bit tricky for those who cling to only the masculine, logical, structured side of things though).
