When you discover your soul contracts and spiritual agreements in close relationships your life takes on a deeper meaning. Your life purpose crystallizes with clarity; you know what you are here to do, learn and experience. You see the pivotal role your spouse, family members and friends play in your life. Judgment, blame and victimhood drop away and are replaced with peace and empowerment as you embrace important life lessons.
Anthony Burgess once wrote, “When we promise to love we really mean that we promise to honor a contract.” With each close relationship comes a contract that both have agreed to either consciously or unconsciously. In my recent article, the Spiritual Purpose of Relationships, I wrote about how each person that comes into your life is here to offer you an opportunity to stretch, grow and heal in some way. In this article, I describe three spiritual exercises for discovering what your soul contracts and spiritual agreements are in your close relationships.

3 Spiritual Exercises for Discovering Your Soul Contracts
Would you like to have spiritual tools you can use to see into the bigger purpose of your close relationships; a way to glean the lessons from people who trigger you and gain a deeper appreciation for those who warm your heart? Here are 3 spiritual exercises involving intuition, visualization and energy reading for you to try – see which one provides the most insights for you.
1. Use your intuition. Intuition can be used to sense, see, or simply know what is going on beyond the surface appearance of people and situations. Take a few minutes to relax and turn inward. Think of a person you are strongly affected by – either negatively or positively, and notice your first reactions. What thoughts arise in your mind? What emotions surface? How do you feel around this person? Scan your body to see where you hold the feelings and reactions. Listen to the messages or sense the information in these areas of your body. What are you being called to do, learn or heal within yourself? For example, if you feel small and powerless around this person, you may be trying to learn how to stand up for yourself or own your power in a healthy way.
2. Visualize your relationship. Visualization is a useful tool to use as a way to communicate on a heart and soul level. It may appear you are only imagining having a conversation with another, but in reality you are opening a spirit to spirit connection. Close your eyes and be aware of yourself as a spiritual being in a human body. Imagine that your partner, friend, family member or colleague is standing a few feet in front of you. Notice their physical appearance and personality and then look deeper into who they are as a spiritual being. Say hello to them from you as spirit to the spirit in them. Ask them what they are here to teach you and what you are teaching them. Ask them any questions that come to you as a way to deepen your understanding. When you feel complete, thank them, let them go, and bring your awareness and energy back into your body.
3. Read the spiritual energy in your relationships. Spiritual energy is at the core of all that exists in the universe. We each have the ability to read energy if we use our spiritual sight and look past physical appearances. Here is an exercise for reading the spiritual agreement in your soul contracts. Close your eyes and center within yourself, aware of yourself as a spiritual being. Create an image of a rose a few feet away from you that represents you in present time. Notice what this rose looks like. Now create an image of a rose beside yours which represents the other person. Notice how these two roses relate to each other. Move the roses apart from each other and create a third rose in between them which represents the soul contract and spiritual agreements between you both. Notice the color and size of this rose. Now look past the physical appearance and into the tone and essence of the rose. What is the theme of your relationship – do any thoughts, images or insights surface? Look for the main agreements in your soul contract. What are you offering each other? What are the benefits? Are there any costs? When you are complete, let go of all the roses and bring your energy and awareness back into your space.
Play with these three exercises to find which ones work best for you to discover your soul contracts and spiritual agreements. And remember, you can always change an agreement or break a contract at any time.
