You have the power to transform yourself, your life and your reality. It only takes one person to create a ripple effect of transformation in the world. Of all the spiritual practices I’ve discovered over the years, I’ve found three simple yet potent spiritual tools that empower me to operate from my highest self and create the life I truly want.

It’s easy to read about spirituality, but as Marianne Williamson says, “We want spiritual principles to be more than beautiful abstractions; we want them to actually transform our lives.” So embody the following ideas in real and practical ways in order to create positive change in your life. And for Buddha’s teachings on transformation, read Transform Your Life: A Blissful Journey.

3 Simple Spiritual Tools for Transformation

1. Center within your spiritual self. When I view life through my spiritual eyes instead of my ego’s, I transcend limiting beliefs, I access intuition, and I have the clarity to make decisions in my highest and best interest. If I let mental rantings or emotional reactions dominate, I tend to look outside myself for answers and give my power away. This leads to recreating the same old patterns in my life.

As I center within by literally bringing my awareness into the center of my head, back a few inches from my forehead where I get lost in thinking, I find an inner stillness that allows me to know my highest truth. From this centered space, I feel grounded and rooted to the earth, I’m aware of what my body needs, and I take action from an empowered place.

Practice living from your spiritual center as a way to transform your perspectives and actions in life.

2. Communicate from your heart and soul. I have a strong intellect and analyzer. At times this helps me to understand situations, plan ahead and organize details. If I let my mind dominate in conversations with others though, I get lost in right and wrong perspectives, judgments and reactivity. As I remember to connect with my heart when I speak and see the soul in another when I listen, I soften and relax, I have meaningful conversations and I create deeper connections with others.

All it takes is for me to connect to my heart as I speak. If I’m having a difficult conversation, it helps if I place my hand over my heart when I talk. As I listen to the other, I look past their surface appearance, past their personality and behaviors, and into the spiritual being within.

Try communicating from your heart and soul as a way to transform your relationships.

3. Use your power of intention. I know that everything I experience in my life is a product of my creation. If I’m unaware of my thoughts and emotions, I end up creating my reality out of default. The limiting beliefs, conditioning and programming I grew up with creates my path. Fortunately, I’ve discovered that as a spiritual being I have the ability to redirect my life in any way I choose, simply through the power of intention. If I know what I want to experience during my day, week or month, I set an intention for that to happen. Without even trying to make it happen, circumstances unfold in the direction I’ve intended.

I’ve manifested career opportunities, friendships, material objects and states of being by thinking about or envisioning them. If I notice any resistance arise, such as feelings of scarcity, victimhood, or doubt, I release these and replace them with thoughts and feelings of abundance, joy and certainty. It’s a matter of setting an intention and trusting my higher self to bring it into manifestation.

Consciously choose what you want to create in your life and use your spiritual power of intention to transform your life.

As you center within your spiritual self, communicate from your heart and soul, and use your power of intention, you will transform yourself and your life in the direction of your choice.
