Like Christmas, Easter is a Christian holiday that has lost its spiritual or Christ-centered focus for many people. If you want to create a more spiritual Easter, try these tips for making this holiday more meaningful for you and your family…

“The resurrection gives my life meaning and direction and the opportunity to start over no matter what my circumstances.” ~ Robert Flatt.

A wonderful way to increase spirituality during the Easter season is to apply what Christ did — starting a new stage of life, for instance – to your own life. For more ways to soak up the joy and peace of Easter, read He Is Risen: Reflections on Easter and the Forty Days of Lent. And, here are five ways to be more spiritual at Easter…  Read the rest of this entry »

How does one maintain spiritual balance throughout the day in such a fast paced society, with a multitude of tasks to accomplish and external pressures to deal with? How do you touch into your spiritual center for renewal and serenity when so many distractions abound? It requires putting yourself first and creating new habits that connect you to your spiritual self and the Source of all life.

I wrote about the state of spiritual balance in the article, Being Spiritually Centered, and a reader commented, “As I read, it came to mind the practice of coming home to spiritual balance each day is a gift we give ourselves and everyone around us.” In this article, I offer tips on how to find and maintain this spiritual state throughout the day so you can give this to yourself and extend it to your friends, family, co-workers and community. Purposeful living doesn’t mean your achievements have to be grandiose, famous, or even infamous! But, purposeful living does mean you need to trust your intuition and be aware of the difference between your soul and your ego. Here, author and life strategist Anna Morten shares “soul tips” to help you live with purpose and meaning.

“Only a few people achieve all they are capable of in their lifetime because the majority do not trust their intuition,” she says.

Trusting your intuition to take you where you need to go takes practice, but it’s the heart and soul of purposeful living! For more insights from Morten, read The Cuckoo’s Egg The Story Of An Extraordinary Woman. And, here are her tips for living on purpose… Read the rest of this entry »

Accepting a relationship breakup with love and ease may seem challenging at first. Relationship endings are painful, even for those who want them, but especially for those who don’t. Feelings of loss, thoughts of regret, and fear of change can override the lessons, growth and opportunities waiting to be experienced. Bringing ease and love to the situation makes the transition more bearable.

The first step in moving beyond any painful situation is acceptance. A reader recently commented on this after reading the article, How to Stay Positive During Difficult Situations. “I’m currently going through a breakup from a man I’ve been with for 4 years. When I read and re-read the ‘practice acceptance’ part and not resisting the situation, I literally felt a huge weight lift off of my shoulders.” Read the rest of this entry »

Many find it difficult to receive money easily for their services, gifts or talents. They love doing their work, but they end up underpaid. Underneath some people carry limiting money beliefs such as money is heartless, corrupt or causes people pain. Even as people neutralize their judgments and create supportive beliefs, they still get caught on subtle rules about giving and receiving. The saying, “It is better to give than to receive,” blocks many people from receiving money for their time and energy.

In a recent article, Empowering Ways to Improve Financial Health, I offered exercises to help change limiting beliefs about money. A reader commented on her dilemma: “I seem to think money should be for giving not taking (for example, I have a difficult time ‘taking’ someone’s money as payment for work I have done but I’m happy to pay someone for their work and I’m very good at bringing in money for other people when I don’t benefit financially).”

I recognized this pattern in myself and realized it came from two societal messages: 1) a gift is meant to be given without expectation of receiving anything in return, and 2) acts of service are a part of charity. If I view my work as a gift or talent or as an act of service for humanity, how do I receive money for it and not feel as though I’m breaking a cardinal rule? I instantly saw the dichotomy inherent in this situation and explored ways to transcend it. Read the rest of this entry »

Depression can be treated in many ways – including spiritual healing – but a key to emotional health is the practice of self-compassion and self-care. Here’s how self-compassion and self-care helps with depression, plus several ways to weave this type of emotional healing into everyday life.

“The name of the game is taking care of yourself, because you’re going to live long enough to wish you had,” said former editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Grace Mirabella.

And one of the best ways to take care of yourself is to be consistent about practicing self-compassion, self-forgiveness, and self-nurturing! One of my favorite books about emotional health is Emotional Freedom Practices: How to Transform Difficult Emotions into Positive Energy – it’s an excellent resource for holistic health and wellness. And, here’s how self-care can help lift depressed feelings… Read the rest of this entry »

Deepening your relationship to the God of your heart will take you into a fuller experience of yourself as a spiritual being and open you to an abundance of love, joy and trust. These higher states of being are always there for us to tune into, but like the sun obscured by the clouds, our true nature is cloaked by our mental ranting and emotional reactivity. We start to believe we are the mind or body and forget who we truly are and why we are here.

It says in the Bhagavad Gita that “God is seated in the hearts of all,” and in the Bible, “The kingdom of God is within.” We are not separate from God, but intricately connected at all times. How could it be otherwise? Yet so many of us get lost in the busyness of our lives and let external circumstances dominate until we feel disconnected from the God of our heart. This is just an illusion which can be broken by taking time to deepen our relationship to God, Source, Creator, or however we each refer to the essence of all life. Read the rest of this entry »

Knowing God and understanding what God is has been a quest for people since the beginning of civilization. Various religions and spiritual traditions have evolved over the centuries as a way to define and worship the sacred.

Reading and hearing about religion and spirituality provides an intellectual understanding, but to truly know God, one has look past societal and cultural conditioning. As Saint Augustine said, “God is not what you imagine or what you think you understand.”

To explore a theologian’s perspective, you might enjoy reading Knowing God by J.I. Packer. For an inquisitive spiritual journey, keep reading. Read the rest of this entry »

Spiritual seekers aren’t immune to the benefits money can bring – or the hope of increasing wealth! These six spiritual ways to create financial abundance may change the way you look at money, and help you achieve the prosperity you envision for yourself…

First, though, remember that spirituality and money aren’t inherently opposed:

“But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” Deuteronomy 8:18

Even if you don’t believe in the Christian God from the Bible, you probably realize that we all have natural talents and gifts that affect our ability to earn money. And the more we tap into our innate resources, the more money we’ll make…and the happier we’ll be as we earn it! To learn more about creating financial abundance, read How to Have More than Enough: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Abundance. And, here are six ways to create financial abundance, from me and my Spiritual Seekers partner, Gini Grey… Read the rest of this entry »

Why do you need a deep, healthy inner life? For increased self-confidence, more compassion, better health, and an easy acceptance of the ups and downs of life! These five practical ways to pursue a rich inner life will help you cope with the irritations of daily life, without being consumed by them.

“It is those who have a deep and real inner life who are best able to deal with the irritating details of outer life,” said Evelyn Underhill.

And who doesn’t have irritations to deal with? Even the most respected spiritual teachers and powerful spiritual leaders get annoyed sometimes…but it’s their rich inner life that protects them from the uncontrollable emotions that lead to unhealthy behaviors (for instance, feelings of insecurity can lead to emotional eating). For more information on developing a rich inner life, read Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao(pictured). And, here are my five tips for producing positive energy and growing your inner garden… Read the rest of this entry »
