Cha-Ching! Money for Writers, Financial Abundance, and Couples Finance

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, February 27, 2010 8:03 am

My recent “Quips and Tips” articles focus on re-evaluating goals, setting new intentions, and money money money! Creating financial abundance is one of my favorite topics, so I’m forging ahead with money and goals…because it’s more fun to be The Adventurous Writer when you’re actually making money writing. :-)

What’s really been on my mind, however, is a 2,500 word article I just wrote for alive magazine. That’s the longest, most in-depth article I’ve ever written – and it was stressful! Why I want to write a 70,000 word book is beyond me…and yet I’m still aiming for a book contract from a reputable book publisher…

Also, I started a new “Quips and Tips” website, called Quips and Tips for Love Relationships. I found my Achieving Your Goals blog to be too love-heavy, so I’m transferring articles from Goals to Love…which means my Love blog is basically creating itself!

Okay, here’s a roundup of my most recent articles on Quips and Tips, See Jane Soar, and Psychology at Suite101… Continue reading 'Cha-Ching! Money for Writers, Financial Abundance, and Couples Finance'»

This month, my “Quips and Tips” articles ranged from Valentine’s Day gift ideas to having multiple babies because of fertility treatments…with a little bit of Maui thrown in for good luck!

What’s really on my mind, however, is my “Make Money Blogging” course that I’ll soon be teaching through Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the years…and I love earning money from my blog writing! If you’re in Vancouver in May, I hope to see you at the course. Questions? Ask me below!

My newest Quips and Tips articles range from making your blog posts more popular to discovering how your personality affects your saving and spending habits (money psychology!).

And, I’m sad to report that my literary agent and I aren’t on the same page when it comes to my latest book proposal…which means I’m looking for new representation! I’ve sent out a few query letters to agents before Christmas, and will continue my search in the new year…wish me luck…

New on Quips and Tips – Hiring a Webmaster and Getting Pregnant

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, December 12, 2009 9:28 am

My newest Quips and Tips articles range from signs that it’s time to invest in your writing career (hire a Webmaster!) to tips for getting pregnant with dairy products. I also posted a several Christmas articles – mostly about saving money and making shopping easier.

And, I’m happy to report that I sent my book proposal to my agent and my writer’s group! Phew – such a load off – I can’t imagine what it’ll feel like to send a draft of my book to the publisher after months of researching, writing, and editing…

I also had my hubby make a blog button for “The Adventurous Writer”, which I’ll be posting on all my Quips and Tips blogs. Love being married to a true Renaissance Man – he fixes the plumbing and creates works of art. Thank you, Bruce!

New on Quips and Tips – Breast Cancer, Author Interviews, Email Signatures

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, December 5, 2009 8:59 am

Recent Quips and Tips articles include helping friends who have breast cancer, improving your interview skills, and jazzing up your email signature. I’m excited to include Quips and Tips for Spiritual Seekers – my newest blog – for the first time in my roundup of articles!

I’ve been slogging my way through working on and enjoying a book proposal for the Quips and Tips series.  ;-)  It’s tough work, pulling together a book proposal, especially when there’s no guarantee your book will ever hit the shelves. But I’m trying to enjoy the process and not get hung up on the “what if this is all a big fat waste of time?” stumbling block.

If you have any words of advice or encouragement for me, I welcome your comments below! And now, here’s a roundup of my latest articles on Quips and Tips, See Jane Soar, and Psychology at Suite101… Continue reading 'New on Quips and Tips – Breast Cancer, Author Interviews, Email Signatures'»

New Articles – Family Problems at Christmas, Reevaluating Goals, Money Tips

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, November 21, 2009 10:14 am

Of all the articles I wrote this week, my favorite is about reevaluating career goals. Doesn’t matter if you’re a writer, store owner, lawyer, or stay at home mom: you need to get off the merry-go-round (rat race?) occasionally and figure out if you’re still going in the right direction!

“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goal,” said Benjamin E. Mays. “The tragedy of life lies in having no goal to reach.”

Set your big and little goals, my friend…or you’ll reach age 95 and wonder what you did with your life and where the time went. Since you’re gonna be 95 anyway, you might as well challenge yourself in different ways!

New Articles – Christmas Gifts, Getting Unstuck, Pet Therapy

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, November 14, 2009 9:34 am

The Adventurous Writer’s new articles include Christmas gifts for elderly parents, getting unstuck, and reducing stress while trying to get pregnant. Last week’s new articles included blog partnerships, relationship breakups, and taking care of elderly parents

Before the links to the latest, here’s one of my favorite quotations:

“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.” ~ Longfellow.

This reminds me of giving people the benefit of the doubt: if someone cuts you off in traffic, assume they’re distracted by serious matters (it reduces your stress!). If a store clerk is unfriendly, assume she’s having a bad day – and don’t carry her burden around with you. Leave it at the store with her!

Okay, enough of that. Here’s a roundup of my new articles on Quips and Tips, See Jane Soar, and more… Continue reading 'New Articles – Christmas Gifts, Getting Unstuck, Pet Therapy'»

New Articles – Blog Partnerships, Relationship Breakups, Caregiving Elderly Parents

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, October 31, 2009 7:50 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer; topics include starting blog partnerships, getting over relationship breakup guilt, caregiving elderly parents – and more! Last week’s new articles included travel writing, anger management, and letting go of someone you love.

First, a word about how to read for writers:

“Read! Read! Read! And then read some more. When you find something that thrills you, take it apart paragraph by paragraph, line by line, word by word, to see what made it so wonderful. Then use those tricks the next time you write.”  ~ W.P. Kinsella

I vow to do this the next time I read something I love — and I challenge you to do the same! Okay, here’s a roundup of my new articles on my Quips and Tips blogs, See Jane Soar, and more… Continue reading 'New Articles – Blog Partnerships, Relationship Breakups, Caregiving Elderly Parents'»

New Articles – Travel Writing, Anger Management, Letting Go of Someone You Love

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, October 24, 2009 8:02 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer, covering travel writing, anger management, letting go of someone you love, and more! Last week’s new articles included writing careers, overcoming jet lag, and infertility tests.

First, some wise words on writing talent:

“I see the notion of talent as quite irrelevant. I see instead perseverance, application, industry, assiduity, will, will, will, desire, desire, desire.” – Gordon Lish.

I don’t know what “assiduity” means, but I get the rest of it. To be a successful writer, you need to work your tushie off!

Okay, here’s a roundup of Continue reading 'New Articles – Travel Writing, Anger Management, Letting Go of Someone You Love'»
