By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, October 24, 2009 8:02 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer, covering travel writing, anger management, letting go of someone you love, and more! Last week’s new articles included writing careers, overcoming jet lag, and infertility tests.

First, some wise words on writing talent:

“I see the notion of talent as quite irrelevant. I see instead perseverance, application, industry, assiduity, will, will, will, desire, desire, desire.” – Gordon Lish.

I don’t know what “assiduity” means, but I get the rest of it. To be a successful writer, you need to work your tushie off!

Okay, here’s a roundup of Continue reading 'New Articles – Travel Writing, Anger Management, Letting Go of Someone You Love'»

New Articles – Writing Careers, Jet Lag, and Infertility Tests

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, October 2, 2009 11:23 pm

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer; I’m writing in sunny Salzburg, Austria. On my blogs this week, I’ve covered everything from investing in your writing career to overcoming jet lag – which I’m doing right now!  Last week’s new articles included Halloween, Internet Affairs, and Challenge Tests.

Before the articles, here’s one of my favorite quotations from Marianne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

- From A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles.”

Lovely, no? And now a roundup of my most recent articles on my four blogs… Continue reading 'New Articles – Writing Careers, Jet Lag, and Infertility Tests'»

New Articles – Halloween, Internet Affairs, and Challenge Tests

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, September 26, 2009 8:15 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer – and the Big News is that Quips & Tips for Successful Writers is now a Top 10 Writing Blog! Awesome. On my blogs this week, I’ve covered everything from Halloween to Clomiphene Challenge Tests – including networking tips for successful writers. Last week was Divorce, Divorce, Divorce! and Thanksgiving.

First, here’s an interesting quip from How I Became a Successful Novelist (a work of fiction) by Steve Hely.

“The financial success of an author is inversely proportional to the literary worth of the book.” – Pete Tarslaw.

Me, I’d rather be a financially successful writer than a literary author! Call me a hack if you’d like (and people do), but I’m paying my bills and going on adventurous vacations :-) Continue reading 'New Articles – Halloween, Internet Affairs, and Challenge Tests'»

New Articles – Divorce, Divorce, Divorce! and Thanksgiving Dinner

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, September 19, 2009 8:21 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer – divorce was the hot topic, because of a wonderful book I’ve been reading (and no, it’s not because my marriage is unhappy!). I also wrote about writing careers, Thanksgiving, saving money for Christmas shopping, and Halloween costumes.

First, advice from Ray Bradbury for writers:

“To sum it all up, if you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling.

You must write every single day of your life.

You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next.

You must lurk in Continue reading 'New Articles – Divorce, Divorce, Divorce! and Thanksgiving Dinner'»

New Articles – Writing Author Bios, Solving Tax Problems, and Overcoming Infertility Depression

By Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen, September 12, 2009 9:55 am

Here are this week’s new articles from The Adventurous Writer – they range from writing author bios to overcoming infertility depression to weight loss tips for teens! Plus, below is my “what I’m  reading” and book recommendation for the week.

First, a quip for writers:

“Failure is part of it. You will be rejected dozens and dozens of times. The best way to prepare for it is to have something else in the works by the time the rejection letter arrives. Invest your hope in the next project. Learning to cope with rejection is a good trait to develop.” – Po Bronson.

Learning to cope with rejection is a good trait for all people, not just writers. Bounce back and move forward, my friends! And, check out my newest articles… Continue reading 'New Articles – Writing Author Bios, Solving Tax Problems, and Overcoming Infertility Depression'»
