Welcome to Quips & Tips!

If you’re starting a new writing blog, I encourage you to find a topic that you’re very interested in — even passionate about! Writing in general would work, but I suspect being a bit more niche-oriented would be good. There are so many wriitng blogs on the internet…you really do have to find a specialty to stand out from the crowd.

What’s your favorite genre? What writing books do you most often read? What type of writer do you want to be? What type of writer ARE you already?

The key to building a successful writing blog is to find a niche that you can happily write about for years…because coming up with blog post ideas can be tough. It’s alot easier when you love what you’re writing about.

I hope this helps a little. If you have more questions, ask away!

Yes, I agree that an ad-free blog would be ideal. I especially don’t like the ads right in the middle of the posts….and I’m beginning to wonder how effective they are! Maybe they’re just annoying.

I don’t like the way ads look on personal blogs! It distracts from what you’re saying, and makes the blog looks cheap. As a writer, making money from my blog isn’t that important to me.

Thanks for this post. I couldn’t agree more about how crucial it is to “get to know” your competition.

It’s important to draw off others and learn. Through the internet and all of these amazing social media networks and websites, we’re given such a variety of ideas to pull and choose from.
