Hi Samantha,

Congratulations on publishing your book of poetry! That's a huge achievement -- good for you :-)

Regarding writing a novel...I'm not sure if you need motivational tips or novel-writing tips. I can offer several articles about increasing your self-discipline and motivation as a writer -- but I don't have any articles that are dedicated to writing a novel.

Here are two articles about increasing your productivity and chances that you'll be a successful writer:

<a href="http://theadventurouswriter.com/blogwriting/quoted-writers/tips-for-achieving-your-writing-goals/" rel="nofollow">10 Tips for Achieving Your Writing Goals</a>

<a href="http://theadventurouswriter.com/blogwriting/quoted-writers/8-habits-of-highly-effective-writers/" rel="nofollow">8 Habits of Highly Effective Writers</a> -- which features a wonderful book, called "101 Habits of Highly Successful Novelists."

Each of these articles has links to other helpful articles......and if you're looking for more specific writing tips, let me know!

Good luck with your writing, my friend.

Laurie

Laurie,

I am a writer by all means. I do not write novels however I do write poetry. You have given great advice that will help many writers from different styles of writing. I do however have a question to ask. I am wanting to write a novel in the future I just don't know how to go about the challenge of writing one. Do you have and tips or advice that could help me in this journey? I have recently published a book of my poetry and I want to do big things.

Thanks,
Samantha

Great tips! With so much information on the internet being banal and regurgitated, this informatin is a breath of fresh air and quite valid. There is much truth in this article and I applaud the author for sharing such powerful information that is actually a relevation of secrets; secrets because such wisdom is seldom shared.

Thanks for your comments!

I think that the more rejections you get, the more confident you feel as a writer. That's how it worked for me, anyway....though I suspect it's a law of diminishing returns...

I think trust yourself is an important point. And also just get doing rather than thinking. It is too easy to put things off rather than just knuckle down.

[...] You have natural strengths and weaknesses — and so do other writers. Comparing how you write or your writer’s voice to other writers – whether they’re Anne Lamott or the blogger next door – is destructive and stifling. Admire other writers’ styles. Nurture your own. To develop your confidence, read one of my favorite posts on Quip & Tips for Successful Writers: 13 Tips to Improve Your Writing Confidence.
