Hi Laurie,

I try and keep the editor's perspective in mind during all of my communications. I don't rush timeframes and I do my research before sending a query. Thus far this has been a winning strategy. The tips here are worth keeping in mind - Printing out the post now...

Thanks for your comment, Kat.

Honestly, I think every writer should job shadow an editor for a month! It'd be great to get an inside perspective on query letters, article assignments, published articles, and so on....

I just realized that though it's a great idea to put yourself in an editor's shoes -- how can you do that if you don't know the size, color, fit, etc?

I do get what you're saying, though, and I agree that if something makes you uncomfortable, you probably shouldn't do it.

Hope to see you 'round these parts again!

Editor's perspective, here: I think the important thing to remember is to step inside your editor's shoes for a moment. They're busy, and they're trying to create the best magazine/website they can with less resources than they'd like. And they want to create a unique product. So think about your relationship with your editors, and ask yourself what you would think if you were them. If that makes you uncomfortable, then it may not be the best decision.
