Omar, I gotta say that I, too, get caught up in the doing (instead of taking time to implement good strategies for writing or making money as a freelancer). I tend to forge ahead impulsively, and I don't stop, take a breath, and look around.

Thanks for your reminder! :-)

What a great question, Prerna!

I've written several articles on blogging for writers, but haven't written about setting up a website for writers. I'll do that within a week, and post the link here.

In the meantime, here are a couple of posts that might interest you:

Hi Irene,

I've written an article about making money as a niche writer. Here's the link:

<a href="http://theadventurouswriter.com/blogwriting/freelance-writing/niche-writers-ways-to-earn-money-in-specialized-markets/" rel="nofollow">Niche Writers – 9 Ways to Earn Money in Specialized Markets</a>

I hope it helps; if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share them!

And remember: it is hard to make money writing, no matter what your speciality is. Very few writers can support themselves freelancing....but some do!

All good things,
Laurie

Thanks Laurie. Most of the times I get so caught up in the doing that I don't implememnt tips or strategies to become a prolific writer or I procrastinate. I'll take it one step and day at a time.

As always, love these tips and I so agree with not fighting editors or cribbing over changes. I've had the opportunity of working with some fab editors who have helped me really hone my writing skills.. The one thing I really gotta do is get a website, not my blog, but a writer website for my portfolio and clips, etc. Any tips for that, Laurie?

Thanks for your comments, Leslie and George!

Very interesting question, Irene...you make a good point. I'm not sure how a historian can earn alot of money writing. I do know that trade magazines are alive and well; I recently heard a panel of editors agree that they didn't experience the same downturn as the general magazines, because they were so specific and niche-oriented. Of course, they live and work here in Canda, which wasn't as affected by the terrible economy as America.

Let me chew on this for awhile. I'll see if I can dig up some tips for niche or specialized writers....a challenge! I love it! :-)

I'll post the link here, within a week from tomorrow (Tuesday.....I normally write for Successful Writers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I've got this week all planned out. Lucky for me; it gives me time to dig around!).

Warmly,
Laurie

This is a great article, thank you! However... may I ask you something?

The advice you give is fabulous, very useful... but how about a writer's specialty subject, too? I've noticed that all successful freelance writers who claim making big figures from their writing (implying that therefore, other writers can do it, too!) are either financial advisers, or IT specialists, or psychology gurus, or have some other specialty currently well-paying and in high demand. What if a writer's niche is tiny and not really popular? I'm a historian, for instance - what do I do? Get training as an IT professional? :-) Other than that, what can a writer who's unlucky enough to have an "unpopular" specialization do?

Thank you very much!

Laurie,

These items need to be printed out and pasted on a wall where the writer can see them to be inspired to write. yes, writing is a business and if a writer treats it that way, they will be more inclined to achieve the great results they have stored inside them.
