A friend of mine owns a duplex that she rents out, and it takes a lot of time, energy, people skills, and business skills to deal with tenants! She can't afford to hire a property manager or caretaker, so she and her husband regularly make home repairs and do the lawn maintenance. It's a time-consuming job for them, and it doesn't give them a profit. Not yet, anyway! When they pay off that duplex, the rental income will be more like profit. Now, it goes towards taxes, home repairs, ads for new tenants, etc. Successfully making money off a rental property depends in large part on your tenants! Luckily, in most cases you have control over who lives in your buildings....but even good tenants can cause problems. Thanks for your comment, Jason!
