I like staying at in a private doubles room at a youth hostel more than staying at hotel (though of course it depends on the hotel and hostel). As part of a couple, I love meeting new people and looking outwards -- it gives us a whole different perspective! Since we stayed at that youth hostel, we’ve stayed at 3 other hotels. Some travelers love this... Personally i really enjoy getting to know fellow travelers from all over the world, sharing travel tips and stories of home. I thought all hostels offered kitchen space, so tourists can cook their own meals. I'm not a fan of eating out for every meal, but my husband and I often stop at grocery stores for quick take-away sandwiches and salads. I love Billa in Europe! I say stay at a hostel with a kitchen to say money on food. Especially in the bigger cities, you can find a market and cook as opposed to eating out at expensive meals or unhealthy fast food.
