When You’re Bored, Learn to Surf! (Photo by Fathzer, via flickr)
These fun, creative things to do when you’re bored at home range from toilet training your cat to mapping out a treasure hunt.
“There comes a moment in the day when you have written your pages in the morning, attended to your correspondence in the afternoon, and have nothing further to do. Then comes that hour when you are bored; that’s the time for [fill in the blank with a boredom buster!]…” ~ H.G. Wells.
One of my friends builds guitars — that’s his favorite thing to do when he’s bored. You could try learning a musical instrument – it’s good for your brain and it’ll give you something interesting to do. I recently started playing the flute again, and will be joining an orchestra soon. If you love to listen to music, you’ll LOVE learning how to play an instrument.

Someone once told me that only boring people get bored.
Build a fort out of blankets.
I love to read how to live life more fully…like I’m doing now. Also, lately I like finding new fun ways to do things…like for instance, turning the tv to mute and having myself and my little girl play the characters with our own voice…it’s a little fun…but fun things like that which can dramatically shift the everyday routine to being a much more happier occurence.
Look back on your life so far an make a list of good and or bad memories from the past.
How about win something or solve puzzles, or both. You can do exactly this at Pyramid Effect. Competitions where you have to solve puzzles, find answers to cryptic clues or even just find hidden (virtual) treasure. As an added bonus once you complete these stages you get a chance to win something great.
Write a thank you letter to your mom, for all the things she’s done for you. Or your dad, because tomorrow is Father’s Day.
But don’t tell them you did it because you were bored and needed something to do.
Watch Youtube
Look up optical illusions I spend hours looking at them
Volunteer at an old folk’s home, or an animal shelter. One of the best things to do when you’re bored is to give back to the world in a positive way! Pick up litter in your neighborhood. I know it sounds boring, but….volunteering is so good for you and the world around you.

Thanks for your tips, Isabel! I’m the complete opposite of you: I don’t garden OR write poetry.
My favorite thing to do when I’m bored is to go for a walk — especially if I have a purpose. I know it sounds boring, but I LOVE to walk, and we have lots of forest trails around our house
I also read or write poetry. It is my way of pouring out all my feelings which I could never share with anyone. Poems on love and nature are particularly very nourishing.
I do gardening. Not only do flowers and plants take my mind off so many stressful situations but being out under the morning sun also energizes me. In the late afternoons, I go back to check the flowers if they need watering and thereafter, just sit on the grass and warch the sunset…and all the tensions and boredom are gone…
Figure out if Twitter is something you like.
try to identify things in room with eyes closed
