Thank you for your comments, Mera and Susan!

Yes, expectations can definitely take over our goals -- expectatations from ourselve and others. And, habit. For instance, I've achieved my weight loss goals but I still feel overweight and like I need to watch every bite that goes into my mouth. Sometimes we need to let go of goals we've already achieved.

I like the idea of setting intentions, though, and find myself doing that more often.

Sometimes we give up on our goals because we have unwittingly turned them into expectations. We tell ourselves that we SHOULD be doing this or that, and we beat up on ourselves when we don't do them perfectly. They get so darn heavy this way, that we put them off and no longer feel excited about them.

I like to set "empowering goals" for myself, which means I own them... they don't own me. These types of goals can flow with my life, they can shift and change as I do, and they feel so GOOD as I accomplish them.

Thanks so much for the inspiring article, Laurie.
