Tips for Finding the Right Pair of Blue Jeans

These tips for finding the right pair of blue jeans will show you how to make a large bottom look smaller or a flat one rounder.

Before the tips, a quip:

“Blue jeans are the most beautiful thing since the gondola,” said fashion editor Diana Vreeland.

I think finding the right pair of blue jeans for women is the most amazing thing! :-) Click on the pair of blue jeans to do some online shopping, and read on to learn how to make a flat bottom round. Most of this blue jean info comes from The Goddess Guide by Gisele Scanlon. She’s “a writer, illustrator and seeker of all things stylish and eclectic…and she’s got some good fashion tips for finding the right pair of blue jeans…

Tips for Finding the Right Pair of Blue Jeans for Women

To make a flat bottom rounder, don’t buy jeans with straight, flat, or plain pockets. Instead, find jeans with pockets that lean towards your hips, which will make your bottom appear curvier. Take a friend when you’re shopping for the right pair of jeans – someone you trust, who will tell you the truth. Even if it hurts.

To make a large bottom smaller, choose blue jeans with pockets situated lower on your rear. These jeans will make your bottom look smaller, by making it appear as if it’s the same size as the pockets. Plus, these pockets perk up your bottom, where your thighs begin, which also makes it appear smaller. Also – find blue jeans that don’t have small pockets. Jeans without pockets may make your bottom appear larger.

To slim your thighs, try boot-cut jeans. In The Goddess Guide, Scanlon says, “Dark shading on both the inside and outside of the leg will elongate it.” When you’re looking for the right pair of jeans, a tip is to look for a faded, lighter color on the front of your thighs and a darker color along the sides.

To look taller, choose a dark color of blue jeans. Dark colors have a slimming effect, which instantly makes you look taller. Make sure you buy blue jeans that are the right length for you; long jeans will make you look short. Scanlon also recommends ironing a crease down the front of your jeans, which will make you appear taller.

To slim your hips, avoid a narrow leg. In this case, finding the right pair of jeans may involve boot cut blue jeans. The wide bottoms offers balance, and doesn’t emphasize your hips.

Blue Jean Terminology

Low rise and super low-rise jeans have a waistband that’s a several inches below your belly button. Great for a flat belly, but not so flattering if you have a rounded or more generous tummy (like most of us).

Medium rise jeans is my favorite type of blue jeans, I think. The waistband sits just a couple of inches below your belly button. “For women within a medium height range who have a pear shape, the medium rise is more flattering on your bum than any other rise,” writes Scanlon in The Goddess Guide. That must be why that’s the right pair of jeans for me (though I’m in the short height range).

High rise jeans have a waistband that comes to or above your belly button. High rise blue jeans are great for tall women, because they balance the long, lean look.
