Creative Halloween Costumes for Women, Girls, and Couples
This Halloween, you could make or purchase a creative costume for women (a sassy Victorian pirate), or stick with the “tried and true” costumes (Queen Elizabeth or Amelia Earhart). Here’s an extensive list of creative costumes for women, girls, and couples!
First, a quip about Halloween from Gwen Stefani:
“Being in a band you can wear whatever you want – it’s like an excuse for Halloween everyday,” said Stefani.
Choosing creative Halloween costumes when you go to work would be like playing dress-up and donning a different persona in front of thousands of people every day. If you’re an introvert, you could wear a mask or glamorous head piece (think of those Venetian masks that are worn at the Carnivale every year in Venice!).
Amazon has a huge selection of beautiful regular and plus-size Halloween costumes for women and girls. Click on sassy Victorian pirate lady above for more info. And, read on for several creative Halloween costumes for women, girls, and couples…
Creative Halloween Costumes for Women and Girls
Here’s a money-saving tip for Halloween: go to a second-hand store, such as Value Village or the Salvation Army, to find ready-made Halloween costumes or eclectic and vintage clothes. You can shop with your costume in mind, or go with an open mind and pull something together as you shop!
All the links below are live, so you can click for more info about each Halloween costume.
Pirate Swashbuckler – a great Halloween costume for women is a strong, ruthless, seaworthy female pirate. You could dress up as the fictional Elizabeth Swann from The Pirates of the Caribbean, or real Mary Read or Anne Bonny.
“Wardrobe Malfunction” Costume – this trendy Halloween costume for women (not girls) comes with a huge naked boob popping out of a dress or blouse.
Jane of Tarzan & Jane fame – I had this Halloween costume for years, and never got tired of wearing it! I love how powerful, strong, and smart Jane is; she makes this a perfect creative Halloween costume for women or girls.
Wonder Woman – this is a tried-and-true favorite Halloween costume for women, worn by females of all ages!
Sexy Witch Costume – ditch the old notion of a witch wearing a shapeless black cape and hideous nose. Instead, create a simple homemade costume for Halloween out of a sexy black dress with a ragged black hem and sleeves, black choker necklace, wild black hair, high heeled black shoes, and dramatic gothic makeup. This can be a unique, unusual, and highly creative Halloween costume for women.
Moulin Rouge Dancer – a la Nicole Kidman in the movie Moulin Rouge! This is a fantastic Halloween costume idea because it’s totally open to interpretation.
Female Zorro – if the Swashbuckler Pirate Lady doesn’t suite your tastes, go as a female Zorro. After you gather your sword, mask, and black hat – all you need is a white steed!
Catwoman, Batgirl, or Spiderwoman – okay, these aren’t exactly creative Halloween costume for women or girls, but they are definitely tried-and-true favorites.
Gangster or Mafia Girl. This Halloween costume for women can be sexy, tough, aggressive, intimidating, and illegal – or a mixture of all of the above! Again, it’s a great choice for a homemade Halloween costume because it’s open to your interpretation and imagination.
Medieval Renaissance Queen or Peasant Girl – vintage stores may have tons of gorgeous dresses to choose from – but start your Halloween shopping early!

Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,

According to My Halloween Costumes.com, recent events like the new US President Barack Obama and the loss of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson are also great places to start getting good costume ideas from.
With movies in minds, here are some of the most popular Halloween costume ideas of 2009: Watchmen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. And the year-after-year Halloween costume favorites are any Disney character like Snow White and Little Mermaid.
Comment by Cat Halloween Costumes on 1 October 2009:
Great costume ideas indeed.
I prefer the Catwoman dress myself.
Comment by Laurie Pawlik-Kienlen on 1 October 2009:
There’s a catwoman DRESS, as a women’s Halloween costume? I didn’t know that — I thought the catwoman costume was just that tight black leotard Michelle Pfeiffer wore in Batman!
